Florida constitution revisions files, 1965-1967.

The collection contains the Florida constitution revisions files of Hugh M. Taylor from 1965 to 1967. The files were prepared for the use of the Florida Constitution Revision Commission. It gives a detailed comparison by articles of the revisions made in the Florida Constitution from 1838 to 1868. It also shows which provisions were not carried forward from revision to revision. Included are typewritten copies of the Constitutions of 1838, 1861, 1865, and 1868.

The 1968 Constitution contains a continuous revision clause providing for the revision of the Constitution within the first ten years after approval, and a revision every twenty years thereafter (Article XI, Section 2). The Constitution specifies a thirty-seven member commission be selected to prepare revisions. Hugh M. Taylor, a native of Gadsden County, Florida, was a distinguished judge and expert on Florida's Constitution. He was a circuit judge of the Second Judicial Circuit from 1947 to 1976. Taylor was a member of the Florida Constitution Revision Committee and played a major role in the revision of the state constitution in 1968.
